And
they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto
heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of
the whole earth.—
Genesis 11:4 (KJV)
Those rebellious souls were determined to make a name for themselves. The tower symbolized their unity and opposition to God. They said, “let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth” (v4). But God stopped them by breaking down their communication system and thwarting their self-centered, God-defying objectives.
Even though we are Christians, sometime we get caught up in making a name for ourselves by climbing business, religious, or social tower that deny God His rightful place. If we do, will eventually be brought down because God is still at the top. True greatness dose not lie with those Who strive for worldly fame; but it lies instead with those who choose To serve in Jesus' name--D. De Haan
